  21. Xanthus Announces Open Object Embedding (OOE) for NEXTSTEP
  22. New standard for compound documents

  24. Stockholm, June 16, 1994 - Xanthus International AB today announced
  25. Open Object Embedding (OOE), its new standard for compound documents
  26. on the NEXTSTEP computing environment.
  27.  
  28. Aimed at everybody that easily wants to create compound documents
  29. on the NEXTSTEP platform that contain different types of objects,
  30. OOE allows objects to be created, edited by a suitable application,
  31. and stored within the working document.

  33. OOE allows objects created in a 'server' application (drawing
  34. program, spreadsheet etc.) to be stored, or embedded, in the document
  35. of a 'client' application (word processor, presentation program
  36. etc.). Double-clicking on the embedded object will open it with
  37. the correct 'server' application for immediate editing.

  39. President and co-founder of Xanthus, Jesper Lundh said "OOE allows
  40. you to be very productive, for example, create a Questor spreadsheet
  41. from within your OpenWrite document in a matter of seconds. You no
  42. longer need to create a dummy spreadsheet document to 'paste and
  43. link' from."

  45. OOE is an open standard, and Xanthus will support other third-party
  46. developers to make their products OOE compliant. "We want as many
  47. third-party developers as possible to support OOE", says Jesper
  48. Lundh.

  50. OOE designer and co-founder of Xanthus, Bjorn Backlund said "OOE
  51. is based on standard NEXTSTEP tools, like the pasteboard and
  52. distributed objects, and is very easy to implement. We made the
  53. NEXTSTEP demo application Draw OOE compliant in just two hours."

  56. and Graphity.

  58. OOE will be shown in the Alembic booth at NEXTSTEP Expo and in the
  59. Xanthus Suite at the San Francisco Marriott near Moscone Center.
